This is going to be a long post and there are going to be typos since i have to type on mobile due to the issues stated later

Laptop Model : Dell Inspiron 7559

The Issue in breif
Wifi does not work. There is no networks settings in the toolbar, the network or wifi toolbar is enabled AND grayed out in settings so that cannot be enabled.

The device manager shows my network adapter i.e Intel(R) Dualband Wireless-Ac 3165. However there is a yellow trianglr on it. There is also another driver called Realtek PCIe GBE family controller which has the same issue.

In the netqork settings the wifi option has literally vanished. The status shows 2 large dashes and in between those there are small dotted gray dashes, now sure what that means.

The network and internet panel in 5he control panelk shows "unknown" and " dependancy service or group failed to start.Change adapter settings only show Local area network and underneath it is written Tap windows adapter v9.My wifi adapter is missing there as well ?

How it started
I had installed proton vpn earlier and maybe that might be the issue ? I dont really think so but jst
a doubt. Anyway after finishing school stuff i open my laptop again to see that the wifi icon is missing in the toolbar. However i cpuld connect to the web just fine and also the adapter appeared in control panel.
I thought a restart would help....but restart betrayed me and made it worsee, i could not connect to the internet and the adapter in control panel qas gone .
I have uninstall proton vpn or other vpns that i had but nothing fixed it
Device manager showed code 31 none of the fixes online worked...

Things i tried
Updating driver - they say its up to date.
Manually updating drivers by downloading iy from dell on another computer - same as above
Uninstalling drivers and restarting - no effect
Using ethernet - Does not work, i suspect the issue is because intel dual band thing does not show in control panel ?

I tried system restore but it failed saying an antivirus is on so it couldnt complete.i need to try system restore again now that i disabled malwarebytes but im too tired troubleshooting this.

Please guide me in repairing this if possible because now i will have to use my 10 year old pc that lags with modern apps due to just 1 gb ram so i really need to repair this.
If nothing works i will need to take my laptop to the dell service shop

Thank you for reading, help if you can. I may have missed a few details but ill update it if i remember them.

Install ProtoVPN again, and see if it left your system in a locked (VPN on) state - then manually turn it off and see if your normal connections re-appear.

That sounds like a viable reason for what you experienced.

At least you got it working.
