Not as much as a problem, just an irritation.

Defender notification icon has a yellow triangle (action needed) yet when called up it shows everything ok.

I use Malewarebytes so this is not a major issue.

Check the settings one at a time maybe one of them needs to be dismissed.

Also see re-registering Windows Security app will help.

No matter where you go, there you are
See if you have Always register Malwarebytes in the Windows Security Center turned on. If so, turn it off and reboot, see if it goes away (if not, just turn it back on). I have mine turned off for just that reason. I do also have an AV program as well

What JAG said was it might happen *because* MB is registered. Unless you meant that it was *not* unregistered.

It was registered and I didn't change anything.
Changed back to normal on its own.
But I will note to try the above if it happens again.

It does get finicky at times when it is registered. I ran into the same problem myself before.

Rest assured, it's not a massively recurring problem though - it happens, but not a lot, relatively speaking.

There is a LOT of misinformation online to the effect that If you install MBAM, Defender won't run. So long as you have that Always register Malwarebytes ... slider OFF, the two complement each other and play very nicely, indeed. @A Guy (y)

Well, technically, if you do a default install and don't change that setting, then it disables Defender's periodic scanning - which, even if registered as the default app, you can still also go back and enable Defender's periodic scanning too. And let's face it, the majority of people who install software rarely ever use advanced settings / customized installation parameters, opting for the default settings to get it done as quickly as possible.

In times past it was necessary to have each exclude certain files from the other's scanning regiment, but the last several times I've set it up I've not bothered to set up the exclusions at all, and I've not really seen any problems. So they do seem to play with each other much more nicely than they have in the past.

Well, technically, if you do a default install and don't change that setting, then it disables Defender's periodic scanning AGREED- which, even if registered as the default app, you can still also go back and enable Defender's periodic scanning too AGREED. And let's face it, the majority of people who install software rarely ever use advanced settings / customized installation parameters, opting for the default settings to get it done as quickly as possible AGREED.

In times past it was necessary to have each exclude certain files from the other's scanning regiment, but the last several times I've set it up I've not bothered to set up the exclusions at all, and I've not really seen any problems ME NEITHER. So they do seem to play with each other much more nicely than they have in the past. [Bold caps mine]
I used to exclude the Defender folders in MBAM, but I no longer bother. My only small point is that it's one of those silly Net myths that you can't run Defender and another AV together, period. I like having the context menu triggers for both to scan any new download of mine. And I like the fact that their definitions files are completely independent, so they're not checking redundantly, but complementarily. [And that's a word I hardly ever use!]

In its early days, Defender and its predecessors were not very ... 3rd party AV friendly. Heck, neither were most 3rd party AVs either.

That is one thing that has changed for the better. most of them are good at working with both Defender and MB, and they all have come a long way, that's for sure.
