Office 365 subscriptions - On how many devices can Office be installed

A question often asked is "I have an Office 365 subscription, on how many computers can I install Office desktop apps?".

The answer is, it depends on the subscription plan. O365 Personal and O365 Home subscribers can install Office desktop applications on an unlimited number of devices, whereas O365 Business, Enterprise, Education and Government subscriptions allow one user to install Office on maximum five devices.

• One user with a Microsoft Account
• Office can be installed on unlimited number of computers (PC and Mac)
• Maximum 5 computers can be online at the same time
• Installs can be managed (Office removed from specific computers) on Microsoft Account management page

• Six users, subscriber with a Microsoft Account can share Office 365 with five additional users
• Each user can install Office on unlimited number of computers (PC and Mac)

• O365 Business Essentials only contains Office Online apps, no desktop applications
• O365 Business and Business Essentials, Office applications can be installed on maximum 5 computers
• Installs can be managed (Office removed from specific computers) on My Account page on Office Portal

• One user
• O365 Enterprise Plan E1 only contains Office Online apps, no desktop applications
• O365 Enterprise Plan E3 and Plan E5, Office applications can be installed on maximum 5 computers
• Installs can be managed (Office removed from specific computers) on My Account page on Office Portal

• One user
• O365 Education Plan AE1 only contains Office Online apps, no desktop applications
• O365 Enterprise Plan A3 and Plan A5, Office applications can be installed on maximum 5 computers

• O365 Government uses O365 Enterprise plans

I've just been to check my version and apparently I have Microsoft 365 Family, but of course there's only me using it now but at the moment it's installed on my 2 laptops and my desktop plus it's still on my late husbands desktop.

Ahhh, good Post Kari. I have Personal, and didn't realize I could install it on my 2nd spare PC

We're subscribed to home, and it's shared between the extended family, we had old office products that worked fine, but it was cheaper to get 365 with its 1TB of cloud storage per user than get the cloud storage for a couple of users, getting office thrown in was just a bonus.

That's the reason I went with 365, before that we'd had the single boxed versions of 2007 then 2010 and the standalone version of Excel. When we got laptops in the mix it made sense financially to take out a subscription so I could share it with John and he could use it on his desktop and the laptop he used for a business he did the accounts for.

Same here - with the included online storage, it just became cheaper and easier to consolidate.
