I have a feeling that Bitdefender, some corrupt system files or some other 3r-party program might be interfering with your upgrade, if you tried an upgrade straight from the Windows desktop.

First try to run this system file integrity checker command in Command Prompt with elevated privileges (Administrator):
sfc /scannow

If it found any corrupt files, it should automatically fix them for you.

If you have created a Windows setup DVD or USB thumbdrive, then boot your computer from it and try the upgrade from there. The setup media should detect that you already have a Windows installation on your disk and will ask if you want to keep all apps and users profiles, or if you want to clean install.

Choose upgrade/update and let the setup run till the end.

Based on experience with installing 20H2 on older computers I see absolutely no reason why your laptop (I assume it is the one in your profile) would not accept it too.

Swapped out the default Realtek wireless card for Intel AC-9260. Oh boy, what a difference in speed and reliability. Once I upgrade my router to WiFi6, I'll swap to Intel AX200.
