Microsoft has adopted the Chromium open source project in the development of Microsoft Edge on the desktop to create better web compatibility. This new Microsoft Edge runs on the same Chromium web engine as the Google Chrome browser, offering you best in class web compatibility and performance.
The new Chromium based Microsoft Edge is supported on all versions of Windows 7, Windows 8.1, Windows 10, Windows Server (2016 and above), Windows Server (2008 R2 to 2012 R2), and macOS.
You can use Microsoft Edge in Windows 10 to cast video, picture, and audio content from your browser to any Miracast and DLNA enabled devices on your network.
The cast icon doesn't show on the toolbar in Microsoft Edge by default unless you are casting, but you can pin (always show) and unpin (remove) the cast icon on the toolbar.
This tutorial will show you how to add or remove the cast icon on the toolbar in the Chromium based Microsoft Edge in Windows 10.
Add Cast Icon on Toolbar in Microsoft Edge from Settings Menu
Open Microsoft Edge.
Click/tap on the Settings and more 3 dots button (Alt+F), click/tap on More tools, and click/tap on Cast media to device. (see screenshot below)
Right click or press and hold on the cast icon on the toolbar, and click/tap on Always show icon to check it. (see screenshots below)
Remove Cast Icon on Toolbar in Microsoft Edge from Cast Icon
Open Microsoft Edge.
Right click or press and hold on the cast icon on the toolbar, and click/tap on Always show icon to uncheck it. (see screenshot below)
Enable or Disable Always Show Cast Icon on Toolbar in Microsoft Edge for All Users using a REG file
You must be sign in as an administrator to use this option.
You can use the ShowCastIconInToolbar policy to enable or disable to always show the Cast toolbar icon in Microsoft Edge. If enabled, users won't be able to remove the cast icon. If you don't configure this policy or if you disable it, users can pin or remove the icon using its contextual menu in Option One (add) or Option Two (remove).
The downloadable .reg files below will add and modify the DWORD value in the registry key below.
(delete) = Default
1 = Always show
Do step 2 (Always show) or step 3 (default) below for what you would like to do.
Save the .reg file to your desktop.
Double click/tap on the downloaded .reg file to merge it.
When prompted, click/tap on Run, Yes (UAC), Yes, and OK to approve the merge.
If Microsoft Edge is currently open, then close and reopen Microsoft Edge to apply.
You can now delete the downloaded .reg file if you like.
